Beware of "Free" Apple iPad scams on Facebook
It’s a scam, duh…. The old rule still holds true - DON’T CLICK ON LINKS FROM FACEBOOK! Think to yourself, would your friend really send you an invite to a “Free iPad Event” with a sketchy looking link using poor English to explain it? Yeah not so much. Wake up people!

Facebook for iPhone's new 'pull to refresh' looked a little familiar
I noticed this this morning, it looks IDENTICAL to the Twitter app. Though I do love this feature and am glad it’s in the facebook app, you’d think they’d at least “try” to make it look like their own…

It’s Time We Took Back Control!

We have reached a new and amazing stage in technology, but it is getting out of the hands of the consumers, and into the hands of big business. Right now, I’m starting to feel less and less in control of my personal information, and more vulnerable to the “privacy policies” of Facebook, Amazon, online banking, iTunes, etc. These companies, along with Apple, are control freaks. They are finding ways to manipulate us to use our data for advertising, and not being diligent about notifying us, or protecting the information.
The financial companies are strongly regulated on how they protect our information, so I’m actually less worried about my bank information than I am about normal personal information about myself, like my birthday, where I live, where I work, who my friends are.
The regulations on the protection and sharing of personal information for social networking sites is not as regulated as you think. There are government regulations in place saying you can only collect and use personal data that is applicable to the needs of the company, but that is very blurred when the company is social networking. They are taking it with a grain of salt themselves, and are collecting, using and distributing everything we post on our page to 3rd party advertisers, and 3rd party applications.
These applications used to have more regulations in place from Facebook on how to handle this information, but now, they can use it however they want and keep it as long as they want. Their protection of this data is also either un-regulated, or just plain unchecked. A lot of these apps only exist for the purpose of collecting your data, and they are not equipped to protect it.
There are plenty of other social networking options. I’m hoping there is a shift away from Facebook in the future. Think of the most popular networking site, Twitter. What personal information of yours do they require? Name, email… that’s it? Yes that’s it. People’s profiles consist of their updates, and that’s about it. How about Tumblr? The only information I gave them is my name, email, and zip code, and they don’t share that. They don’t give the information to advertisers, they don’t support 3rd party apps or allow other companies to use this information.
Before you trust anything, think about who they likely are. Did they really create a quiz to tell you which LOST character you are because they really care? No, they created it to lure you into giving your private data.
Be smart, not stupid. Don’t allow these huge companies to take and control our personal data. Don’t allow Facebook to link you to pages that reveal personal information about you. Read everything you can on protecting your privacy, and fight the man!

Top 10 Reasons You Should Quit Facebook | The Best Article Every day
I’m not suggesting anyone actually quit, but you should read this and always be aware of how your personal information is being used. If you haven’t looked at your application settings lately, chances are you have a ton of stupid crappy apps that are only developed to acquire your information (which family guy character are you, etc). Go to application settings, from the drop down select authorized, and you will see all the apps that have access to your personal info, store it on their local servers, and probably don’t have the technology to protect your private data. They may also be selling it, they can do what they want. Delete any apps you don’t trust!

Facebook has recently developed a “like” button that can be embedded into websites, then creates a news feed entry on your profile that says you like that website. This is quickly becoming a new tool for spammers, so don’t click “like” outside of facebook. Read this article.
