Google Drive
Is it just me, or is Google AGAIN late to the game? Why would I stop using Dropbox and start using Google Drive? Just like they were late to the social networking game.
I’ll tell you what Google does better than anyone else: Email, Search and Maps. Do you know why? Because when they started those things, all the existing options were terrible. They need to keep looking for shortcomings and creating a replacement product that is better and works, instead of deciding to jump on the bandwagon of an already functioning and popular model to try and take a piece of the pie. This is why Google has been failing lately.
Instead of Google Drive, why not partner with Dropbox and integrate it into Google docs? Why not use existing models and build connections and interfaces? Why can’t the internet work together to create a better product as a whole, instead of creating parallel products that only cause disconnection? I’ll tell you why: Money. Greed. Stubbornness. Companies don’t want to support each other. They will either buy them out, or compete. Google Drive will fail, and they know it already.
Dropbox
I have poo-pooed Dropbox for a while now, but honestly, it is awesome (and FREE).
I’m using it to sync any active work files from my work laptop, and these can now be available on my iphone, ipad, personal laptop, and any computer with an internet connection. My goal is to be able to stop dragging around my work laptop when I travel, and be able to work from my iPad.
Give it a try, it’s FREE!
